MUSHING

Dog Mushing Tours

The Susitna Adventure Lodge and Squid Acres Kennel are owned by Cody Strathe and Paige Drobny, both are accomplished Iditarod mushers. Their main purpose for living the remote life at the Susitna Adventure Lodge is to explore with their family of huskies. Join them on one of the following winter adventures, or spend a whole week and do them all!.

Our dogs are our family. We’d love to share just how awesome a life with sled dogs can be. We have many options for your group to interact with the dogs. We can do short sled rides, long sled rides, Aurora viewing sled rides, teach you how to run your own team, day trips by dog team and overnight camping trips with the dogs. Some of the retired dogs are also willing to snuggle in the lodge and sleep over if you need some dog love in your life!

RIDE

Dogsled Rides

Join the Alaskan Huskies of Squid Acres Kennel for a ride on the local trails. Guests get the chance to meet the dogs, help harness and hook up the team.

Strap on your cross-country skis for a day of exploring by human power. The open tundra landscape allows us to groom a trail that fits your skiing experience levels. Whether you prefer classic skiing with a set track, skate skiing or breaking your own trail through the woods, we have the place for you to get after it.

We do not have skis at the lodge, but we can assist you in finding a rental location in either Fairbanks or Anchorage if needed.

SNOWSHOE

Snowshoe Day Hikes

Strap on a pair of snowshoes and explore one of the local valleys. Snowshoeing is a great way to move quietly through the landscape and possibly catch a glimpse of the local wildlife.

Ride in Style

Combine with a Train Ride

Take the Aurora Winter Train

We can help you arrange a magical winter train ride to Denali from Anchorage or Fairbanks. Simply get a cab from the airport to the train depot and we’ll pick you up at the Denali Depot. This While the Aurora Winter Train travels the same stretch of tracks as the summer Denali Star Train, the views are strikingly distinct; the vibrant colors of Alaska’s summer landscape give way to the quiet serenity of pristine snow.  Passengers may enjoy the winter wonderland of Alaska’s backcountry from the comfort of a warm railcar, complete with comfortable seats, large picture windows and onboard dining. On a clear day, a spectacular view of Denali rises into view above the Susitna River. And anywhere along the tracks, a watchful eye may be rewarded with the sight of a moose in the wild.
